While doing our creative preschool ocean theme, one of the girls made a rockin’ paper plate crab with her son. I thought it was so neat and wanted to make one with Little Sister. Instead of a crab, we made a rocking paper plate shark craft since Shark Week is right around the corner. Little Sister thinks it’s cool that her shark rocks back and forth!

How to make the Paper Plate Shark Craft
This fun shark idea is easy to make with just a few supplies. At the end of this post are even more activities the kids might enjoy doing for a shark theme! For an easy snack idea to make along with your shark paper plate craft, check out these Jello Shark Snacks.
- paper plates
- kids paint
- glue or tape
- black marker
- jumbo googly eyes
Fold a paper plate in half. Cut a triangle shape from one side to form the mouth. Cut the triangle shape at the seam/bend. These will be the wing and shark fin.
Cut a tail shape from another paper plate. Along the rim, cut strips for creating to teeth. The indentations are the perfect size for teeth. Just cut a triangle tip in between each.
Paint all the pieces with gray paint and let dry.
Once dry, fold the paper plate back in half and run your hand along the crease. Tape or glue the teeth to the mouth area inside of the paper plate.
Glue or tape shut the top corners to keep the plate from going flat. Attach the shark’s fins and tail. Add on a jumbo googly eye. Draw the gills (sharks have 5-7).
Now your paper plate shark is ready to rock! Just lightly press down on the head and watch it rock back and forth.
