Boredom Buster: Erasable Wall Decal Sticker Art
In need of a fun, boredom buster that needs little direction from you and allows kids to be creative by themselves or with a couple other kids? This erasable wall decal from Plaeful is a great choice! It’s perfect for a rainy, hot, cold or windy day and even for days when the kids are a little under the weather. Today I am sharing how my preschooler and I had mommy and me time doing an ocean sticker prompt together using the Plaeful wall decal.

I love that it’s suitable for many different age groups. Older kids can get super detailed with their drawings while kids as young as toddler-aged get the freedom to openly explore drawing on a kid-friendly surface. Toddlers can use regular washable kids markers which clean up easily. Older kids can use these or they might enjoy drawing with either wet or dry erase markers.
Our 1st time drawing with it, Little Sister tried foam stickers on it. Most of them came off easily, but a couple left behind sticky residue. Some brands are stickier than others so if you were to use foam stickers, I recommend trying 1-2 placed off to the side for a few hours and peeling them off to see if it leaves stickiness behind. She had fun creating nature scenes and portraits of our family.
A dry erase or chalkboard eraser works great for wiping it up. You can also use wipes, a magic eraser
, white board cleaning spray
,
or a paper towel.
The next day, we used it while Big Brother was at school. This time I brought out our Melissa & Doug Habitats Reusable Stickers. Since they are reusable, there’s no need to worry about sticky residue. There are 5 different themes making it perfect for a new sticker drawing prompt on different days.
Since one of the frames resembles a shark, we decided to use the ocean stickers to create an underwater adventure. I prompted her by asking what she thought the shark should eat…hehe. She took to it immediately creating scenes inside all the different frames. She did one side while I did the other and then we swapped back and forth a few times.
Then I showed her how to to ‘paint with her finger’ by using her pointer finger to smudge the blue marker she had previous colored to fill in the white areas. Besides doing the water, she also did the seaweed this way. I also should her how to do this same thing using a Kleenex to smear the marker instead.
She is at the age still where she likes to group similar items together. It actually works out perfectly when I think about it since fish tend to swim together. She also drew an anchor and seaweed by looking at an image on the Melissa & Doug sticker scene – it made me happy to see her try this!
Other ways to use the wall decal:
Besides using stickers as a drawing prompt, you could:
- Retell a book or make up your own story.
- Family portraits – my kids would love to draw their cousins in each of the frames!
- Big Brother plans to do either a Wipeout or American Ninja Warrior course, like snapshots taken during the course.
- Hang photos using washi tape
.
The Erasable Wall Decal is 3 feet wide x 2 feet tall. You can purchase it in the Plaeful Shop.
