Without Change There Would Be No Butterflies Quote Art
This month, Xyron has partnered with Imagine and we were able to choose which products we wanted to use. I literally wanted everything and had a hard time choosing, but narrowed it down to the IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher, Ink Potion No. 9, Goosebumps Dauber Top Bottle, and their all-purpose ink in thistle. Today we are sharing three new techniques for mixed media art using these awesome products!

I wanted to incorporate all three new-to-me techniques into a “Without Change, There Are No Butterflies” quote art project. It’s such a great saying! Butterflies represent metamorphosis and if you are unwilling to change or try something new, you will remain a caterpillar. Embracing change on the other hand, allows you to spread your wings and fly. The world would be kind of boring if we were all caterpillars!
Quote Art Using Ink Potion No. 9 Tutorial
Supplies Used:
- Ink Potion No. 9
- Ink (the main color on this project is All-Purpose Ink – Thistle)
- irRESISTible Pico Embellisher
- GooseBumps Dauber Top Bottle
- Xyron® Creative Station
with Permanent Adhesive
- Xyron® Tape Runner
; optional
- Paper Cutter
- Watercolor Paper
- Stamps
- Stamp Block
- Stencil
- Sterling Liquid Elements Spray
- Flower Embellishments
- Sharpies
- folder
First, lay the stencil on a sheet of cardstock/watercolor paper. Tape it down to secure it in place. Then, take the Goosebumps and fill in the stencil. Carefully lift the stencil back up. It will be hard to see if using white paper, but it should look a little shiny where you filled in the stencil.
I also wanted to try resist art with stamps, so I grabbed out a couple butterfly stamps and dabbed the Goosebumps over them. Then, just press onto the paper like you normally would with a stamp.
Once the Goosebumps is dry, it’s time to create the pretty blended background. For this, use the Ink Potion No. 9 which helps everything blend beautifully.
Spray the cardstock and then you can use your ink pads to paint over it randomly or use a dropper with bottles of ink to drip all over the paper. It’s neat to watch it blend together and watch the stencil and stamps appear through the color.
Next, I sprayed a sterling liquid elements spritzer over the blended ink. Then I took a paper towel and wiped the ink off the Goosebumps prints.
Once dry, I cut the page into sections and used just the piece with the butterflies for this next part. After deciding on a quote, I used Sharpies to write the quote. Then I took our Lawn Fawn Fairy stamp set and stamped the bottom area under the quote. I colored the stamped print and butterflies with the sharpies as well.
I have to tell you, I am in love with the IrRESISTible Pico Embellisher! I wish I had every color, lol. It has a fine tip making it perfect for embellishing projects with tiny details. I love that the cap has a fine point to keep it from clogging. I used the Pico Embellisher to add details to the hand-lettered quote and butterflies.
I also outlined and added details to the ‘LOVE’ stencil which help make it stand out more on the colorful blended ink background. The LOVE section is being saved for a future project. Will update with a link here to share when it’s posted.
Send the quote art through the Xyron® Creative Station that has a permanent adhesive cartridge in it. Peel off the backing and stick it on the folder. This folder is in a blog binder meant to help me stay organized with informative product papers that get sent to me. You could instead place it on a journal/planner cover or even hang it up as wall art.
To attach the flower embellishments, I used my favorite crafting tool, the Xyron® Tape Runner.
If you haven’t used these products for crafting before, which technique would you want to try most? What saying would you use for the quote art?
