Look how festive this Chinese Dragon Puppet is! We made it as a Chinese New Year craft. I found this idea in the book Crafts for Kids. Here is our version of it…..
I dabbed red paint on a piece of construction paper (light-colored) and my little artist had a blast spreading the paint everywhere with his hands.
Next, he shook green and gold glitter all over to make it more festive-looking. I think sequins would also be fun to place on….. if only they would actually stick!
I set it aside to dry and then cut the page in half horizontally.
I taped the 2 pieces together and cut one side to form the dragon’s tail. My son colored the dragon’s head with markers…. you can print the dragon puppet from here. All that’s left is taping on the head and 2 Popsicle sticks. Sadly, our dragon didn’t last very long before my little guy ripped it…. lol!
Variation: If you have 2 kids, it might be fun to tape all 4 body pieces together to form one giant dragon puppet. Each kid would have one Popsicle stick to hold onto while parading around showing off their dragon!

This really turned out great! What a fun project… we've never done anything for Chinese New Year, but this is very tempting! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
