- Patterned Cardstock
- Black Cardstock
- Hot Glue
- Black Marker
- Mini Popsicle Sticks
Paint mini popsicle sticks with bright colored paint and allow the paint to dry completely.
Use a hole puncher to make tiny circles from black cardstock.
Cut thin strips of black cardstock into 1-2 inch pieces. Glue two strips onto the back of the popsicle sticks and then glue a punched circle on top of each paper strip.
Print out the eye template. Cut out and glue eyes onto each wood craft stick.
Use a black marker to add a smile onto the wood craft sticks. Set aside.
Print out the top and bottom wing templates and cut them out.
Trace the circle and square onto patterned cardstock and then cut out.
Tightly fold each shape accordion style – make a fold, flip over and make another fold, then repeat. (see my scoring tip here)
Glue the top wings to the bottom wings with glue and secure to dry with a clothespin. Alternatively, you could use hot glue to secure the wings together.
Fan out the folded paper wings once the glue is dry.
Glue a popsicle stick body in the middle of the wings using hot glue.
Your paper butterflies are finished and ready to be displayed!
Once your kids learn how to fold paper butterflies, they will have fun making bunch of them in their favorite designs!
