Camouflage Cupcakes Recipe Instructions:
Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Add your camouflage cupcake liners to the pan.
Combine the flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl. Add the sweet cream and sugar. Beat until light and creamy. Add one egg at a time to the sugar and sweet cream mixture while continuing to beat the ingredients. Add the vanilla extract. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk – begin with the flour mixture and end with the flour mixture.
Divide the prepared batter into 3 separate bowls. In one bowl add 5 drops of green food coloring. In another add 5 drops of brown food coloring. In the last bowl add 5 drops of black food coloring. Stir each of the colored frosting mixtures until all the food coloring is evenly distributed.
Starting with the black batter, add 1 spoonful to the bottom of the cupcake liners you placed in the pan. Next, add 1 spoonful of the brown batter. FInish by adding 1 spoonful of the green batter on top of the brown. Each of the cupcake liners should be 3/4 full.
Place in the oven for 12-18 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.
Frosting Ingredients:
3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 sweet cream
2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
food coloring
sprinkles
How to make the Camouflage Frosting:
Mix the sweet cream and powdered sugar until small pebbles form. Continue to mix while adding the heavy whipping cream. Check to see if frosting can form a stiff peak. If not add 1/2 C powdered sugar. Check to see if frosting will now form a stiff peak. If not, continue to add another 1/2 C of powdered sugar until peaks can form and stand.
Divide the frosting into 4 bowls. Leave one bowl white and add food coloring to the other three. Place 5 drops of each color in their own separate bowls: green, black, and brown.
Grab a pastry bag with the desired tip you’d like to use. Start by adding 1 spoonful of green frosting to the pastry bag. Use the back of the spoon to flatten the green frosting. Turn the pastry bag. Repeat these steps using the remaining 3 colors.
Test to see that all of the colors come out before frosting the cupcakes. If all is good, then it’s time to frost the cupcakes to give them a fun camouflage look! Top with brown sprinkles or leave them without.
