Easy Paper Chain Halloween Decoration For Kids To Make
Here’s a fun and mostly mess-free craft to have the kids make this October – a paper chain Halloween decoration featuring their favorite Halloween characters!
This paper Halloween craft can be hung up as a homemade party decoration, used as a Halloween countdown chain idea, or made just for fun.
To make it a countdown to Halloween, you would need to make multiples of each character. Besides featuring a rolled paper Frankenstein, black cat, and jack-o-lantern, kids could make a ghost, monster, mummy, and vampire.
How To Make The Paper Chain Halloween Decoration
Supplies:
- construction paper
- google eyes
- markers
- ruler
- scissors
- glue
- tape
Prep:
First cut strips of construction paper in the colors orange, green, and black that are about 2 inches by 8.5 inches. (all should be the same size so the loops match)
Rolled Paper Jack-o-lantern:
Grab an orange paper strip and draw a jack-o-lantern face in the middle.
Loop the orange strip around and secure with a piece of tape.
Cut a stem and leaf shape from the green construction paper.
Use another piece of tape on the backside of the leaf and stem to attach it to the top of the orange loop.
Rolled Paper Frankenstein:
Up next is the Frankenstein. Take a green paper strip and add a spooky face by gluing on google eyes and drawing on a mouth and scars.
Cut a rectangle out of the black paper. Give one edge a jagged finish to create Frankenstein’s hair. Tape the hair on the backside like shown in the image below.
Loop your Frankenstein and tape it together.

Rolled Paper Black Cat:
Last up is the black cat. Take a black paper strip and attach two google eyes. Add some lashes for added flair with a marker.
Draw on a nose and smile.
Cut 6 thin rectangles from the white paper. Use glue to attach them to the face as whiskers.
Cut two triangles from black paper to create the ears. Use tape on the back of the ears to secure it to the black strip.
Loop around and tape to complete the cat.

Paper Chain Instructions:
Cut two more paper strips the same size as before. Use these to link the three Halloween friends together with tape.
