Printable Chinese New Year Book for Kids – Zodiac Animals
This printable Chinese New Year zodiac book is too cute! It follows the same format as the Brown Bear, Brown Bear book by Eric Carle. It’s fun for kids because it’s a mini coloring book of all the Chinese zodiac signs. *Originally published 2/10/2013 and updated on 1/7/2021.
Printable Chinese Zodiac Colors Book
*The originally blogger (his4homeschooling) who designed the book we originally featured in the older images on this post has since made her blog private. Because so many of you have asked about it, I have decided to make my own version. Please note that the mini book I have made is not the same and I do not feel comfortable adding the writing on – I don’t like the idea of exactly copying someone else’s unique idea, even if they are no longer actively blogging. Her version was also based on books by Eric Carle which could create an issue as well.
What you could do instead is make and print the wording yourself (for your own personal use). The 12 zodiac animals with colors are on 6 printed pages with 2 mini pages per printed one. You could make half sheet sizes of the wording, switching out the animal names and colors. Then you could turn it into a book by stapling the pages on the sides of the stacked pages (instead of the top corner). When opened, the left sides could have the wording and the right sides have the matching coloring page.

Assembling the Zodiac Animal Book
The new version of the Chinese zodiac coloring book includes the twelve animals in the order they appear on the zodiac wheel. Each has a featured color word. At the end of the book there is a prewriting activity that features all twelve animals with words for them to trace (ex: red dragon). There is also a page for kids to write their name and the zodiac animal from their birth year. You will also get two different pages for the cover – one with a girl and one with a boy.
Print the pages and trim off the borders. Cut the pages along the middle line. Stack the pages and staple together in the top-left corner to create a mini half book for them to flip through. You could also cut a sheet of construction paper to create a front and back cover for the mini book. Glue the page with the boy or girl to the front. If you want to keep the pages in the same order as the zodiac wheel, use the word tracing sheets as reference. Start with the black rat and follow the order from top to bottom and then do the same with the white horse page.
The 12 zodiac animal color pages are:
- black rat
- colorful ox
- orange tiger
- gray rabbit
- red dragon
- green snake
- white horse
- purple goat
- brown monkey
- blue rooster
- pink pig
- yellow dog
