How to Make a Ladybug Finger Puppet
Supplies:
- black and red cardstock paper
- 3/4-inch circle punch (1/2-inch might be better for toddlers)
- black paint
- googly eyes
- white string
- white chalk marker (we love these)
Directions:
1. Start by cutting out all of the pieces you’ll need for your ladybug finger puppet. You will need a 3-inch black circle, a 2 1/2-inch black circle and a 3-inch red circle cut in half.
2. Punch two 3/4-inch holes at the bottom of the larger black circle. These are the holes to make your little ladybug a puppet.
3. Glue the red circle halves onto the larger black circle for the wings and then glue the smaller black circle on top for the ladybug head.
4. Fold your white string into a V and glue it onto the back of the ladybug head for antennae. You might need to add a piece of tape to it to help secure it in place until the glue dries. Then glue on your googly eyes and draw a cute smile on your ladybug with your white chalk marker.
5. Finish your adorable ladybug finger puppet by pouring a small amount of black paint onto a paper plate. Dip your finger into it and then onto your ladybug wings to make spots.
Do you know what would make this craft extra fun?…A super cute bee finger puppet friend! Making the two of them together makes a perfect book extension activity for Ladybug Girl and Bumblebee Boy.
Lulu and her dog Bingo meet up with Sam on the playground and want to play together. Sam likes the sandbox but Lulu thinks the monkey bars are better. They just can’t agree…until Lulu asks, “Have you ever played Ladybug Girl?” Quickly, Sam becomes the brave Bumblebee Boy, and he and Lulu, a.k.a. Ladybug Girl, are superheroes who save the playground from scary monsters and mean robots. Source: Penguin Young Readers
