Gold Drawings Inspired by Famous Artist Gustav Klimt
In today’s post, we are sharing gold drawings inspired by the famous artist Gustav Klimt. He was well known for his painting titled, Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I, which sold in 2006 for $135 mil (!) – making it the most money ever paid for a work of art at auction. Our gold drawings are inspired by this piece, which was part of Klimt’s ‘Golden Phase’ where he used gold leaf and intricate designs in his artwork. Also in this post are Klimt book suggestions for kids as well as more famous artists from our bookspiration buddies.

You find find a great tutorial of how to make these beautiful gold drawings over on A Faithful Attempt as well as on Art Projects for Kids (check out a similar line art project here).
This art project works best if you have metallic gold paint or markers, but we made do with crayons and colored pencils. First you will need to sift through magazines and cut out just the head, arms, and legs. I also cut around the outfit to lightly sketch around and to use as a template for gluing on those pieces. After the head, arms, and legs are glued in place, remove the outfit. Use the gold marker (pencil, crayon, etc.) to trace the outline that you lightly sketched.
Little Sister also wanted to make one with Ariana Grande while my son wanted to do Messi since he is obsessed with soccer. I found these images on the web, printed them, and then cut and pasted like mentioned above.
Then it’s ready to decorate with lines, geometric shapes, and so on. Klimt drew inspiration from Egyptian, Minoan, Classical Greek, and Byzantine art. → Read more about Gustav Klimt here.
Little Sister, who is 5, made up stories for two of her drawings. So cute! The girl with the striped leggings is was exercising and is even wearing a headband. Then it turned into a Super Mario game, lol, with ! boxes that were points. This drawing also features paper cutouts from our Gilded Paper Stack. She said Ariana Grande went swimming and then paused to take a picture with lightning in the background.
This ended up being a fun art project that can easily be adapted for different age levels. Another way to make this art project is to use gold and black scratchboard – lots of examples!
