First I secured a white piece of paper to the table. I used drafting dots, but masking tape would also work. Then I took a panda stencil and colored it in with black, permanent marker. An older child would be able to do this part themselves. Any stencil would work or you could draw something simple like a star or write the child’s name.
Then, I gave my son Nu Pastels to color with. They are like chalk- regular chalk or sidewalk chalk would also work for this project.
This is the most he’s ever colored on one page and was very proud of what a great job he did!
I took his hands and showed him how to smear the chalk all over so it blended. This made it a fun sensory exploration while also being able to observe cause and effect- the chalk smearing when he rubbed his hand over it.
Lastly, I tore the edges a little and glued it to orange construction paper.
