Pirate Crafts and a Treasure Hunt
Today was Talk Like A Pirate Day & we celebrated by doing the following Pirate-Themed Crafts:
- Pirate Hat
- Homemade Pirate Hook
- Spyglass-Telescope
- Treasure Chest
- Printable Gold Coins
- Paper Pirate Boy Activity
- Treasure Hunt
- Treasure Map
I made his Pirate Hat using a printable template and construction paper. I should have left the sides out, I taped them back for some reason!
The Pirate Hook is made from a plastic cup and tinfoil. You can read the full instructions on the Busy Bee Kid’s Crafts website.
I found this super easy Spyglass-Telescope also on the Busy Bee Kid’s Crafts website. You can even adjust it to make it bigger and smaller! It is made with a plastic cup, an empty toilet paper tube, and construction paper. The original toilet paper tube was too big so I cut it length-wise and taped it to make it smaller.
All of the crafts took hardly any time at all to make. The one that took the longest was this Treasure Chest Craft made from Popsicle craft sticks and an empty tea box.
After gluing the Popsicle craft sticks on to the box, my toddler painted them brown. While he painted, I painted 6 different sticks black. When it finished drying, I cut the black sticks with a scissors so they fit on the box without any of it hanging over.
To finish, I glued them in place and added a gold sequin (keyhole/lock).
I knew my little guy would love doing a Treasure Hunt. In order to make it suitable for his age (toddler), I decided that taking pictures of the places I planned to hide his treasures would be a fun, easy way that he could understand. I used Photoshop to place the photos randomly on a letter-sized page which I then printed. Alternatively, you could print pictures in a smaller size and glue them on your page.
To make the Pirate Treasure Map, I mixed a little instant coffee in water. Then, I placed the printed page on a baking sheet and let my toddler dump the coffee over it. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process but before it completely dries, tear the edges a little to give it a worn look. When it finishes drying, crumple it into and ball and then open it back up. I used a black marker to draw on all the map details- I am thinking that a black pen would have looked better.
Not wanting to purchase anything for any of the crafts, I searched online for a Gold Coins Printable. You can print it here.
I found for items from around our home that went with the pirate-theme to hide for the treasure hunt.
Here is my little Pirate reading his treasure map to see what clue he could figure out next!
We will definitely be doing more hunts in the future!!!
Adding the treasures to his pirate chest.
All done and excited to show Papa what he found!
He also made a Pirate Boy Paper craft. I cut out all the accessories and he glued them onto the boy to make him a Pirate. He even knew where the parrot went without any help from me- must have seen it on a cartoon!
I printed it from the DLTK website.
Too Cute!!
I don't know if it was seeing the title of this at We Play, or just before it, but I started coming up with ideas for a pirat/mermaid party this evening, so you know I am bookmarking this page for ideas, don't you? 🙂
Awesome ideas! My 3 yr old is very into pirates right now…maybe we'll give this a shot.
Such cute ideas! Love them all, but think the treasure chest is my favorite! 🙂
What a fun time the kids will have with all of these ideas. The popstick treasure chest is fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing!
