Penguin Snowglobe Sensory Craft
I am super excited to share our penguin snowglobe sensory craft with you! It turned out adorable and my preschooler loves it! It’s inspired by this fun snowman snowglobe from No Time for Flash Cards. Be sure to check it out! She used used a couple different materials and has some great tips.
This penguin craft is perfect for a Letter P craft, Winter preschool unit, learning about Antarctica, and the squishy tummy makes it a fun sensory craft!

Supplies Needed:
- paper plate
- black paint
- paintbrush
- scissors
- glue
- duck tape
- orange and white construction paper or craft foam
- 2 jewel gems
– optional
- Ziploc
or similar – sandwich size
- shaving cream
- glitter
- miniature penguins
– optional
- tissue paper and 1 button – optional
Instructions:
Start by painting a paper plate black. Let dry. Make a small slit starting at the edge and then continue by cutting the center circle out. The circle makes the head and the rim makes the penguins body. Tape the rim on the backside closing the part you cut.
Glue the head to the body. We placed ours where the seam from the cut was. Cut 2 black wings and 2 white circles for the eyes. Glue into place.
Using either orange craft foam or construction paper, cut a triangle beak and 2 penguin feet. Glue into place.
Glue on 2 jewel gems in the center of the eyes (or color a smaller black circle). Scrunch a small piece of tissue paper and twist in the center so that it forms a bow shape. Glue to the penguin’s head. Id you are making a boy penguin, it would be cute to glue it on as a bowtie. Glue a button in the center of the bow.
Fill the baggie with shaving cream, making sure to leave room for being able to squish it. Have the child add glitter. We added blue, silver, green, and pink. I asked my daughter what she wanted to put in the penguin’s tummy. She replied, “A baby!” So cute! She is always talking about babies in the tummy and how she used to be in mine. Luckily, I had mini penguins from a game Big Brother has. I asked her how many baby penguins she wanted in and she picked 4 – her age (as usual)!
Close the baggie and add a strip of Duck Tape that covers the entire length and folds over to the back side. Place the Ziploc baggie on the back of the paper plate so that it covers the entire hole. Secure it with pieces of Duck Tape.
Now it’s ready to play with! It’s fun to squish with your fingers and the glitter makes it look pretty. My daughter had fun trying to find the baby penguins inside the mommy’s tummy.
Variations for the Ziploc filling: add Insta-Snow, hair gel, colored water with foam stickers, beads, sequins, buttons, paint, and so on.
