Last year on the day before Easter, I surprised the kids with a fun Easter sensory play activity using the bath tub as the play bin. Every year after they open their baskets, they always seem to want to make a mess with the grass. This is a great way to let them play with it without forever finding pieces in random places…. Lol!
First, I placed a towel inside to make it a bit more comfortable to sit in. I filled the bottom of the tub with Easter grass and eggs from the previous years as well as some other items I collected around our home: Spring-themed books, stuffed bunnies & a lamb, a bunny shaped lacing activity from Melissa & Doug, pretend plastic hair bows, mini Easter-themed takeout containers, and butterfly/bug binoculars. I also set out their pink and blue bunny ears for them to wear while they played.
Inside 2 eggs, I hid a peep for each kid to find and in another 2 eggs I placed a tattoo. They had to find the ones with the hidden surprises inside which my son absolutely loved! Little Sister did not want to sit inside for some reason so she played with the stuff from outside the tub instead. It was too cute seeing her look at everything through her binoculars wearing her bunny ears.
This was the 1st year that we dyed Easter Eggs and it was almost a craft fail. I bought one of the kits from the store with the stickers that are supposed to leave a white space where they were placed. Not only did the dye bleed into where it was supposed to be white, I couldn’t even get half the stickers off to place on in the 1st place because they were so teeny that they kept ripping.
To try to make the eggs look pretty (lol!), I brought out the glitter & glue, then let the kids go at it. The glitter is from CraftProjectIdeas.com whose products can also be found at Wal-mart. I love their glitter because it comes in skinny tubes making it easy for little hands to hold and there are just a few holes at the top for the glitter to shake out from.
The next day, Big Brother made 2 adorable drawings: a handprint chick and a footprint bunny. Then it was off to the park with our friends to enjoy the beautiful weather and do an egg scavenger hunt. I made these too cute Bunny Peeps on a Stick for the kids to take home. Inside the takeout box was another plastic egg with a candy bracelet.
