Festive Pinecone Bird Christmas Ornament
Aren’t pinecone ornaments the cutest? There’s so many things that can be made using them. A snowman, Christmas tree, owls and Rudolph are just a few of the ideas. Today we are sharing a festive pinecone bird Christmas ornament idea. It’s simple to make plus Little Sister got to use kid-friendly spray paint to color the pinecones which she loved!

- pinecones
- kids paint
- glue dots (or use a hot glue gun)
- spray bottle
- pipe cleaners
- jumbo googly eyes
- ornament string
- feathers
Prep:
Mix red paint with water in a spray bottle. Test spray on a sheet of paper until you get a vibrant enough color to use on your pinecones. You could also use green paint for a Christmas bird theme.
Pinecone Bird Christmas Ornament Instructions:
Start by laying newspaper down with the pinecones set on top. Have your child spray the pinecones with the red paint. Make sure to spray from every angle to ensure you get in between and on both sides of the pinecone.
Set aside to dry.
We looked at bird clipart for Little Sister to be inspired by. I suggested making a Christmas bird which she liked. She chose to add green and red feathers.
Because she wanted it to be a baby bird, I stuck a small feather piece to the top (bottom since it’s upside-down). I felt it looked more like a baby with the little ‘hair’ feather.
I gave her glue dots to stick on the feathers and eyes. You could instead use a hot glue gun to stick on all your pieces.
The nose is made from a pipe cleaner shaped like a triangle. Glue on under the eyes.
When she was finished, I made an ornament hook by wrapping a pipe cleaner through the back of the pinecone near the top and formed a loop with it.
Alternatively, you could use an ornament string/ribbon to attach to the backside for hanging on the tree.
Display your cute pinecone bird ornament on the Christmas tree or even on an outside tree for all to see!

This is such a wonderful idea! I never know what to do with pinecones and we find so many in the woods. I love owls, which this looks like to me, thanks!
Originally wanted to do an owl (obsessed!) but Little Sister was more interested in a bird this time. Thanks!
