Kid-made Corn Decorations for Fall Using Paint Roller Technique
Have you been making any fun crafts for Thanksgiving? My son has been learning about harvesting and seems to have an interest in it so I thought it might be fun to make painted paper corn decorations for Fall. We made two different corn painting crafts using a paint roller technique to give it texture.
Fall Decorations with Corn to Celebrate Harvest Season
We talked about how corn is a crop that “is for the harvest” as my little guy likes to say. I told him that farmers gather the corn in fall for us to eat and how it is a popular food for Thanksgiving.
We also talked about Indian corn and how they are pretty for making Thanksgiving door decoration ideas since they have multi-colored kernels.
My preschool aged son ended up making an Indian corn wreath craft and his little sister (toddler age) made cute painted corn on the cob characters.

Corn on the Cob Paint Roller Craft Activity
Place paint on a paper plate. Little Sister used yellow only while Big Brother used yellow, brown, and red.
Take out the rolling pin with the square pattern. Roll it over the paint and then over the construction paper. Repeat these steps until the paper is filled. Let dry.
Easy Corn Art Project for Toddlers
I cut corn shapes from the painted yellow paper and husks from green construction paper. Glue the pieces together on a sheet of brown construction paper to create the corn on the cob shapes.
Little Sister added googly eyes. Big Brother drew the nose, mouth, legs, and wrote corn on it. He was so excited because he knew how to spell it by himself!
I like how the husks look like arms for the cute corn on the cob characters.
Preschool Indian Corn Door Decoration
Cut three corn shapes from the multi-colored painted paper. Glue them together at the top, slightly overlapping each other.
Next, cut a brown paper lunch bag into strips. Crumple and scrunch the strips, then open them back up. Kids seem to enjoy this part!
Add the now crumpled Glue them to the top as dried corn husks. We also added a ribbon to ours but it is not necessary.
The Indian corn craft for kids is finished and ready to be displayed on the front door or inside your home.
These fall decorations with corn are a great beginning art activity for toddlers and make a fun Thanksgiving painting craft for preschoolers in a class or playgroup setting or a crafting at home.
