Fun Monster Crafts, Activities, Books, Movie, & Snack!
We had a monster themed day where we did tons of fun activities! My kids enjoyed all of them – we love themed days!
Monster Crafts, Activities, Books, and an Apple Monster
Monster Activities
We started by making playdough monsters using the Homemade Playdough we made. The kids stuck on googly eyes, pipe cleaners, beads, toothpicks, feathers, and pipe cleaners into the blobs of playdough.
Monster Crafts
Next we made paint blob monsters!
Place some blobs of paint in the center of your paper and then have the child fold the paper in half and rub the paper to smear it.
This is what it looks like when you open the paper back up.
We glued on googly eyes, pom-poms, pipe cleaners, yarn pieces, sequins, and paper scraps to make our monsters.
Monster Books
While we were waiting for the paint to dry so we could decorate the monsters, we read two fun books about monsters..
This post contains Amazon referral links to the books we read and the movie.
My son adores the book Monster Musical Chairs (Mathstart: Level 1) by Stuart J. Murphy! It’s a cute story about 6 monsters who are playing a game of musical chairs. It is perfect for ages 3 to 5-ish. It has adorable rhyming, counting/math, and repetition making it easy for my little guy to “read” the story himself! I love how at the end it says that it’s okay if you lost this time, you can win the game another day.
We also read the book Vile: A Cautionary Tale for Little Monsters by Mark Robinson. This is a fun book about monsters who go to school to do gross monster things and have bad manners. At the end, some monsters end up at the school of manners and find out that’s not so bad after all. My boy thought this book was hilarious!
Monsters, Inc. (Two-Disc Collector’s Edition)
We ended our monster themed day by watching the super adorable movie Monsters Inc. I just love this movie! The colorful characters are too adorable for words. If you have never seen it, it is a definite must see. My son really enjoyed it and loves to talk about it.
Apple Monster Snack
During the movie, I made him a goofy monster snack. It is made with an apple, cheese, cream cheese (or peanut butter),marshmallows, and chocolate chips.
