DIY Olaf Cookies for a Frozen Birthday Party
Maybe your daughter insists on having a Frozen-themed birthday party. Or perhaps your little guy wants Olaf to be on his cake, party decorations, and everywhere else. You’ve taken to Pinterest for the perfect party ideas to wow your guests and make your child’s face beam with excitement. Look no further! These DIY Olaf Cookies are the perfect addition to your party planning.

How to make the Olaf Cookies:
Cookie Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups sugar (granulated)
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups softened butter; unsalted
Directions
You’ll Need:
Wilton food writer; black
- Cream the softened butter with the sugar until the combination is smooth.
- Add all 4 eggs. Continue to mix.
- Add the vanilla. Mix well.
- Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Continue mixing until all the ingredients are thoroughly blended.
- Make the dough into a ball. Wrap it in cling wrap making sure to completely cover the entire dough ball.
- Place in the refrigerator for about 6 hours or overnight. Check to see if the dough is firm.
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Take the cookie dough out of the refrigerator and let it sit out to soften up a bit.
- Sprinkle flour onto a wood cutting board. Rub flour on the rolling pin. If needed, work a pinch of flour into
the batter. - Roll the dough out on the cutting board. Use the cookie cutters to begin to make the cookies into Olaf’s face and snowflakes.
- Line the cookie sheet with parchment paper. Use a spatula to move the cut cookies to the lined cookie sheet.
- Bake at 325 degrees for 8 minutes.
- Check to see if the cookies are thoroughly baked.
- Take the cookies off the cookie sheet, placing them on a wire rack to cool completely (about 10 minutes).
Royal Icing Recipe:
Icing Ingredients:
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- gel food coloring (black, orange, and blue)
Icing Directions:
- Combine all the ingredients except the food coloring in a mixing bowl. Mix on medium speed for 4 minutes.
- Check if it is stiff. If not, add 1/4 cup powdered sugar.
- Place about 2 tablespoons of icing in a separate bowl. Add orange food coloring. Mix well.
- In a second bowl, add 4 tablespoons of icing and several drops of blue gel food coloring. Stir to mix well.
- In the third bowl, add 4 tablespoons of icing and several drops of black gel food coloring. Stir to mix well.
- The remaining icing remains white.
- Spoon each color of icing into individual frosting bags with #5 tips. Twist the open end of the bag to push the icing to the tip.
Olaf Icing Instructions:
- Outline each of the cookies with white icing. Outline a mouth/tooth using a black Wilton food writer. Allow to dry for about 30 seconds.
- Squeeze the icing into a bowl leaving a small amount in the frosting bag for later use. Add 1 teaspoon of water to this and mix it in.
- Fill the cookies in with the thinner white icing. Allow to dry for a minute.
- Draw hair, eyebrows, eyes and a nose with the Wilton food writer. If needed, use the photo for reference. Use the black icing to darken the lines. Allow those lines to dry for about 30 seconds.
- When the outline of the eyes dry, fill in the the nose with the orange icing.
- Fill in the teeth with white.
- Finish by using the blue icing to fill inside of the mouth.
- Allow to dry for 5-10 hours.
Snowflake Icing Instructions:
- Follow the steps 1 – 3 in the Olaf instructions.
- Draw on snowflake designs using the food writer.
- Go back over the designs with the blue icing starting with the lines from top to bottom, then side to side. Allow about 30 seconds to partially dry.
- Add accent points coming off the sides of the blue lines. You can make these however you’d like: straight, curvy, diamond outlines, tiny dots and so on.
- Allow these cookies to also dry for 5-10 hours.
