Decorate Chalkboard Easter Eggs with Bright Chalk Markers
I love holiday crafts and activities that are quick and mess-free! In the past, I have colored Easter eggs with my kids and their friends using boiled eggs and traditional egg dye kits. That quickly can go south when an egg is dropped and cracked or a bowl of dye is accidentally overturned and the fun is interrupted for clean up time. We have found that coloring black Easter eggs with chalk markers is a great way for the kids to be creative without the adults worrying about the aftermath!
We also have decorated 2D black Easter eggs that we made by cutting egg shapes out of chalkboard paper. These chalkboard Easter eggs are perfect for decorating and stringing together for a festive Easter garland or banner.

How to Decorate Black Easter Eggs
Many stores now sell plain, black Easter eggs that come in a carton, just like real eggs. They’re lightweight and the plastic is durable enough that they won’t easily crack while decorating. Kids can hold the plastic eggs in their hand or keep them in the carton for decorating.
The chalk markers are easy to use and can wipe up easily. It’s helpful to keep wipes on hand or a wet paper towel for quick clean up.
My daughter loves using our chalk markers on our dry erase board. Here’s another simple idea using them to create recycled cd spinning tops or recycled cup monsters. Both crafts are a perfect tie-in for Earth Day!
Easy Paper Chalkboard Egg Decorations for Kids to Make
My kids really enjoyed making paper chalkboard egg decorations at a recent playdate that we hosted. Each of the kids made a handful of eggs. Some of them decided that they wanted to draw a picture of an Easter basket and glue the eggs “inside”. Others made garland using colored string and ribbons on the end.
We served Easter themed treats and did a couple activities too. You can check here for more easy Easter crafts and get ideas for activities and snacks to help celebrate Easter in the cutest ways!
