Water Balloon Games for Kids
Did you know that May 19th through the 26th is National Backyard Games week? It’s a way to remind us to play outside and encourage physical activity in both kids and adults.
We have teamed up with P is for Preschoolers and 10 other bloggers to bring you tons of ideas for outdoor fun all week long! Since summer is almost here (or already here in our case!), I thought it would be the perfect time to share water balloon games for kids that adults may have fun with too.

My hubby, kids, and I filled a bunch of purple water balloons and then headed outside for some good old fashioned games with a summer twist. I thought our Water Play Table would be a good place to hold them while outside.
Up first is a balloon toss game. We brought out our Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Froggy Toss Game to use for catching the balloons. One of us tossed a balloon and we had to try not to let it drop and pop. They also played this individually by tossing it up themselves and catching it.
Next we played tennis using our Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Tootle Turtle Racquet and Ball Set. This was so much fun! We had to hit the balloon with the racket so it would make a splash somewhere. It didn’t always break so it was always a surprise when it did. Little Sister closed her eyes everytime it was her turn…..tee, hee!
Big Brother and Papa left for the gym so that give my daughter and I some mommy and me time. She is 3 so I knew rolling the balloons would be fun for her. We rolled them back and forth and caught them with our frog catchers by placing it over the balloon while it was rolling.
Other fun games using water balloons:
- Older kids may enjoy water balloon baseball while younger kids may like using tennis rackets like the ones we used above.
- Have you tried doing a towel toss before? It looks like lot of fun!
- These balloon pinatas have been on our summer bucket list for quite some time (so cool!). Now that Little Sister is 3, we may actually try this over summer break.
