St Patrick’s Day Color Craft and Gluing Activity

We love rainbows around here so of course we can’t resist making crafts that incorporate them. My kids each made a St Patrick’s Day color craft adapted to their age (3 and 6). This paper craft idea makes a fun cut and paste activity that uses the kids fine motor muscles.

St Patrick’s Day Color Craft Ideas

In partnership with the brand new line from Elmer’s called Early Learners, we decided to used the glue sticks and glue pen they sent us to do a fun gluing activity. The top one in the photo above is made by my 3 year old and the bottom is by my 6 year old.

Beforehand I cut strips of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple construction paper using our Fiskars Paper Trimmer. The kids used the Elmer’s Early Learners Washable Glue Stick to make their rainbows. It has a triangular shape that helps with pre-writing skills and it doesn’t roll away! The cap also fits on the top so no worries about misplacing it. My daughter is fascinated with placing the cap there for some reason…. tee, hee.

They used the Elmer’s Early Learners Washable Glue Pen to stick on the cotton ball clouds. I bought foam shamrock cutouts from Dollar tree for them to glue on. Little Sister glued a pot o’ gold on hers using sequins for the coins – more fine motor skills practice because they are so tiny. My mom bought them rainbow star and heart stickers. I thought it would be fun to show them how to use the hearts to make shamrocks. Big Brother drew a leprechaun on his and also made shooting stars in a rainbow pattern.

We turned Little Sister’s into a learning activity by writing numbers on the hearts for her to practice counting and reinforce her number recognition. I also wrote the 1st letter of each color on the rainbow. For fun I would ask her what color starts with the letter ‘P’ or what letter does the color yellow start with?
