Pencil Topper Craft: Chester the Raccoon
I love how cute this pencil topper craft turned out!
Recently, we were making Chester the Raccoon puppets to go along with The Kissing Hand book (affiliate link) and felt inspired to try making Chester using fuzzy sticks (pipe cleaners) that we received free from Craft Project Ideas. They have different two-toned striped fuzzy sticks – one of which reminded me of a raccoon tail.

Chester Raccoon Plush DollThe Kissing Hand (The Kissing Hand Series)
Instructions:
For this craft, I used a thicker pencil that younger kids often use.
Start by wrapping a gray fuzzy stick/pipe cleaner around the top end of the pencil. Cut a small piece off of the striped fuzzy stick. Wrap one end around the pencil so that some of the gray is below it. Bend it almost in half making sure to to have the end go a little longer than where it meets the pencil (so the tail should have a tail…tee, hee). Twist it where it meets the pencil.
Take a 2nd gray fuzzy stick and wrap it around making sure to cover the extra little tail you made. Take a black fuzzy stick and wrap it around the top leaving a little bit of the gray above it. Form an ear by bending a triangle shape. Wrap it to the opposite side and form another ear. Wrap it around 1-2 more times, then cut off the excess.
Glue on tiny googly eyes and a pom pom nose. I find that glue dots seem to work better than glue for fuzzy crafts. Draw on a smile.
