Ocean in a Bag {Sensory Activity}
We made this Ocean in a Bag Sensory Craft last summer. It was a huge hit with my little guy and a fun experience.
My son squeezed blue hair gel that my hubby didn’t like into a Ziploc baggie. You might also be able to find a bottle at dollar stores. He added water animal foam stickers, beads, and glitter.
I sealed it and then put it inside another Ziploc bag in an effort to avoid any messes. We made a similar activity in a class when he was 1 year old and the bag broke. It oozed gel everywhere so I definitely recommend putting it in another bag with the zipped end towards the bottom.
My little guy had fun squeezing and poking his little ocean!

Ok I am off to look for hair gel right now! This is such a cute idea!!! We are working on our ocean and beach unit right now so this is perfect 🙂
I’ve made sensory bags with paint but I like this one is so pretty and definitely ocean-like. Great idea using the hair gel. I’ve used duck tape around the edges before to give it some durability. It might help with this one as well.
This is neat. New follower thanks for sharing.
We make these with white hand lotion and a bit of blue food coloring. So fun!! : ) I hope you’ll link up and share this with our Smart Summer Challenge for Water Fun/Ocean Week in July!
This is simply adorable! How lovely to look at all the glitter, the different items and feel the water squishing around! Thank you for linking to Kids Get Crafty. Always lovely to see you there! Maggy
Keep in mind you can get a big tub of hair gel at the Dollar Store really cheap!
Thanks for the duct tape tip and for the dollar store hair gel idea ladies! 🙂
Try using freezer bags. They are sturdier and a heavier weight plastic. 🙂
I did this at school last year(Each bag was similar colored items) I used vaccuum seal bags. they were pretty durable, but i recommend nothing in them with hard edges!
I love this idea for a sensory activity! No mess, and tons of fun! The readers of It’s playtime loved it too – you’re a reader’s favorite this week!
This is a very creative use of gel! I love it! I’ll be featuring you on my blog today! : )
We are going to be doing an ocean lesson plan in a couple of weeks…I think this will be on our list=)
