It’s neat to share a fun experience from your childhood with your own children. Remember Monster Cereal – Count Chocula®, Boo Berry® and Franken Berry®? While at Target the other day, I bought all 3 flavors. Each one featured a section of a haunted castle craft on the back of the box. Besides getting the cereal, you are also getting a kid-friendly Halloween decoration! For added fun, we made spooky monster cereal parfaits and also had a contest to see which flavored treat everyone liked the best.
You’ll need:
- 9 oz clear plastic cups
- all three cereals (each box features 1 part of the castle)
- spoons
- clear box tape
- scissors
Prep: {15 minutes}
Cut all the pieces and monsters from the back of each box. Be sure not to forget the little stands. Also cut where you see dashed lines such as in the door and slits. Cut out all the monster names. I found 2-3 on each box.
Use clear box tape to add the monsters’ names to the cups. Place the colored side face down on to the sticky part of the tape. Stick to the cups/tumblers.
How to make the Monster Cereal Parfaits:
Count Chocula Pudding Parfait
Ingredients:
- Count Chocula cereal; about 12 ounces
- 2 chocolate puddings; snack-sized
- whipped cream
- Halloween colored sprinkles
Start by making a layer of cereal on the bottom of the cups, about a half-inch thick. Next add a layer of chocolate pudding. Repeat until the cup is full. Add whipped cream. Top with Halloween sprinkles.
Time Needed: 10 minutes | Serves (3) 9 oz cups
Boo Berry Scream Parfait
Ingredients:
- Boo Berry cereal
- 2 – 4 oz blueberry Greek yogurts; whips variety
- whipped cream
- Halloween sprinkles
- 3 – ghost Peeps
I love how this one looks! Pour Boo Berry cereal, then whipped cream, more cereal, blueberry yogurt and then one last layer of cereal. Top with whipped cream, ghost Peep, and sprinkles.
Time Needed: 10 minutes | Serves (4) 9 oz cups
Franken Berry SCARY Parfait
Ingredients:
- Franken Berry cereal
- 2 – 4 oz strawberry Greek yogurts; whips variety
- 2 – small bananas; sliced
- whipped cream
- Halloween sprinkles
Pour a layer of Franken Berry cereal to the bottom of the cups – about 1 inch high. Add a layer of greek yogurt. We used the whips variety since it gives a fun fluffy look instead of regular yogurt which is a bit heavier. Next, place a layer of sliced bananas or a fruit of choice. Add another layer of cereal.
Time Needed: 10 minutes | Serves (4) 9 oz cups
Mixed Up Monster Parfaits
For this one, add a layer of each kind of cereal with layers of vanilla pudding or yogurt in between. Add a fruit topping if you’d like. Experiment. Have fun!
How to make the Monster Cereal Haunted House:
Grab the pieces you previously cut from the cereal boxes. Use the illustration found on the cereal boxes as a guide. All you need is 10 minutes (including cutting) to put this simple craft together!
Bend the brown part of the castle along the 2 solid black lines. Place the blue piece on top of the brown one where you previously cut slits along the dashed line. Place the pink pieces on the sides of the brown. To make it sturdier, I added tape on the backside where the pieces overlapped.
Now it’s ready to be displayed as decoration!
My kids helped decorate the half wall counter that separates the kitchen and living room. I added a Halloween banner/tape that said haunted around the counter edges. Next, I strung spider web around a couple pumpkins and the walls. The kids did the rest! After placing the haunted castle in the perfect spot, they arranged the cut out monsters around it along with spiders and leaves. Then they added in the jack-o-lanterns with changeable emotions craft we made earlier this month, our decorated pumpkins, a pinecone owl, and Halloween cards they received from my grandma.
Monster Taste Test
Print the template below to have a Spookalicious Taste Test! Fill in the flavors on the left-hand column. Make tally marks on either YUM! YUCK! or FAVORITE for each person and flavor. Instead of tally marks, you could use do-a-dot daubers or Halloween stickers.
