Have you joined in the minions craze yet? They seem to be everywhere these past few years. Our whole family has really taken to these lovable little guys. They’re hilarious! We enjoyed seeing the Minions movie in the theater and are super excited for the DVD release. To get the kids excited about watching it again, we made a Minions Smoothie and a Scarlet Overkill Smoothie. We are sharing the recipes in this post so that you can add a bit of fun to your Minions movie night!
About the Minions Movie
There were tons of funny parts! My hubby and I get a kick out of the way they talk. This movie takes place before the Despicable Me movies created by Illumination Entertainment . They go through a multitude of ‘bad bosses’ which finally ends up with them attending Villain-con. While there they meet the popular first female super-villain, Scarlet Overkill. The rest of the movie is about their adventure with Scarlet’s plan to take the crown from the queen and take over the world.
Plan your Minions Movie Night! The DVD release date is December 8th, however, you can preorder it from one of the retailers listed in the preorder tab. I’m loving all the different *special offers listed (*while supplies last).
For fun, we also took on the challenge of creating a stop motion video. Let me know what you think of it as this is still new territory for us!
Minions Smoothie Recipe
You’ll need:
- Plastic cups
- Snack-sized plastic forks
- Minion Gummy Treats
Ingredients:
- 2 frozen bananas, cut into sections
- 1 cup frozen mangoes
- 1 cups frozen pineapple chunks
- 3-4 tablespoons Vanilla Greek Yogurt
- Apple juice
- Minions gummy treats
Yields 4 cups.
Prep:
The day before, I cut 2 bananas into sections and placed them in a bowl with plastic wrap covering it. Place in the freezer. You may also place inside the freezer a few hours beforehand instead of the day before. Using frozen fruits makes an awesome ice cream like texture.
Here is a list of printables you can use to decorate the outside of the cups with.
Directions:
Add the frozen bananas, mangoes and pineapple mix. Add 3 good-sized tablespoons full of the Greek yogurt. Pour up to a cup of apple juice. Use the ice crush option in the beginning. Blend until all the chunks are gone. Pour into cups.
While on a grocery shopping trip, I picked up a package of Minion gummy treats. They easily stuck to mini forks which I then stuck inside the smoothies for an edible decoration.

Scarlet Overkill Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup frozen berry mix (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
- 1 cup frozen cherries
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries (from the tropical blend in the other smoothie)
- Raspberry Greek Yogurt; we used 2 of the 4 oz containers of the whipped variety – any brand
- red and black sugar sprinkles
- 1-2 cups milk
Yields 3 small cups or 1 tall glass/1 small glass.
Place a small handful of the yogurt baking chips in a bowl. Microwave until melted.
Place the marshmallow on a plastic snack fork. Dip it into the melted yogurt chips, turning until it is all covered.
Sprinkle on red sugar. When the minions arrive at Villain-con, they steal Scarlet’s red ruby in an effort to become her next henchmen. This fun marshmallow pop is inspired by the red gem.
Dip the rim of your glass/cups into a bowl of shallow water. Next, dip it into a shallow bowl with black sugar.
Add all ingredient in the blender and mix together starting 1st with the ice crusher. Blend until you get a nice smoothie texture. Pour the frozen berry cherry smoothie into the glass. Top with the ruby marshmallow pop. Enjoy!
