We are taking part in an annual 31 days of ABC series hosted by All Done Monkey. Everyday for the entire month of October, a different participating blogger is sharing letter crafts (all 26!) or alphabet activities. We chose to do letter i – I is for Ice Cream! My preschool-aged daughter and I made puffy paint ice cream crafts together. The puffy paint dries with a 3-dimensional ‘puffy’ look to it – perfect for ice cream!

Did you happen to see our Pippa the Pumpkin Fairy post?
I am in LOVE with the whole series! Tim Bugbird’s books have such pretty illustrations that my daughter absolutely adores (we own a few of his books).
Izzy the Ice-Cream Fairy is the perfect complement to our crafts or any letter i activities. Izzy and her friends discover that the ice cream well has run dry so they go on a search for more ice cream.
I is for Ice Cream Crafts
We made sparkly glitter puffy paint to use for our ice cream. You will love how simple it is to make! Besides ice cream cones, we also made an ice cream sundae with fun toppings.
Little Sister and I have been doing a super fun handprint alphabet series over on the blog Crystal & Co. Last week’s Letter of the Week theme was also I is for Ice Cream. Head over there to see how we made it including where to get the free cone template.
Ice Cream Cones
Make ice cream cones by cutting long triangles from brown construction paper. Use a brown marker to draw on the cone pattern. Glue it on to a sheet of paper remembering to leave a big enough gap at the top for the ice cream scoops.
We love the purple Elmer’s Early Learners glue pens shown in the photo above. It’s designed specifically for preschoolers and helps promote proper writing grip.
How to make the Sparkly Glitter Puffy Paint Recipe:
Mix equal parts of shaving cream and white glue together. If you are making more than 1 color, separate the mixture into different shallow containers. Add food coloring and glitter.
Paint the sparkly puffy paint on the tops of the ice cream cones. It goes on thick and raised, then dries with an awesome puffy texture. I love how the added glitter looks! Little Sister was fascinated by the dried artwork.
On one sheet of construction paper, I had Little Sister place her triangle cone on one side of the paper. This way we could write ‘I is for Ice Cream’ on the opposite side.
She used the green puffy paint to make the scoop on top of the cone and then sprinkled glitter all over it.
Do you remember Mr. Sketch Scented Markers? They smell so good. I gave my daughter those to color with so her ice cream would smell yummy. I love that she drew sprinkles inside the letters!
How to make the Ice Cream Sundae Craft:
Cut a bowl shape from construction paper. Have the child add (paint) ice cream inside the bowl.
Use stickers to decorate the bowl.
My son added chocolate syrup on top of the sundae (brown paint)
Then, we added a few brown sprinkles on top of the cholate.
Add a red pom pom cherry to the top of your ice cream cone.
