Summer Reading Planner
Take reading even further with book extensions! We created a Summer Reading Planner that you can print for free to plan your own book themed adventure. It can be used as a 10 day planner or a 10 week planner. It is 7 pages long including a cover for writing the child’s name and the last page is a reading log for writing down titles of other books read during the summer.
There are 5 pages in between those with 10 separate sections for each book theme. The colored box is where you will write the title of the book and then there are 5 spots underneath for writing activities based on the book. You can choose to have 5 different activities of maybe just one. It could also be used for brainstorming different ideas relating to the chosen book. Under that is a blank space for if you wanted to glue on a thumbnail picture of the book. Or they might enjoy making a tiny drawing of something from that book.
10 Day Planner:
Make a whole day of it! Do one book plus all the activities in one day. For example, my daughter chose to have a Camilla the Cupcake Fairy Day. We wrote the book title in the colored box and then wrote the following activities in the spaces provided: puffy paint cupcake craft, eat cupcakes, and wand craft.
10 Week Planner:
Since there are 5 spots for book-related activities, you could do a whole week on the same book with one activity a day. For example, week one might be:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Monday: Read book and make the hungry caterpillar from crackers as a fun snack.
Tuesday: Make a handprint caterpillar and a handprint butterfly.
Wednesday: Make a caterpillar to butterfly craft.
Thursday: Feed The Hungry Caterpillar Game
Friday: Retell the story with free printables and a paper bag craft. My son and I made one together when he was 3 years old and now that he is 7, Little Sister plays with it.
