Busy Bags for Crafting On-the-Go
Headed on a road trip with kids this week for the 4th of July? Or perhaps flying somewhere this Summer? Then you may be looking for ideas to keep the kids entertained in the car or hotel.
Busy bags are popular and easy to put together. We recently made a Butterfly Busy Bag for preschool-aged kids. Today we are sharing a few crafting on-the-go activities that you can put together beforehand and take with on your vacation.

I saw the most adorable free printable build-a-monster activity over at Somewhat Simple. We cut out all the pieces and put them in a freezer-sized Ziploc bag along with our Elmer’s glue sticks from their Early Learner’s line. Currently there are 2 different kinds. The Elmer’s Early Learners Washable Glue Stick ‘s triangular shape helps support how younger kids will hold a pencil when they learn to write. Plus, it doesn’t roll away! The cap also fits on to the the top so no worries about losing it. The Elmer’s Early Learners Washable Glue Pen also is triangular shaped offering the same benefits as the glue sticks. I like how easy it is to use.
Now it can be easily taken with and used at a hotel, Grandma’s house, or even at home as a boredom buster activity.
My little ones had so much fun creating their monsters. There were only 2 monster bodies so I made 4 more from construction paper.
Their finished monsters make me smile! They’re so silly-looking and adorable.
I also made the kids a Create-a-butterfly busy bag to use as an on-the-go craft activity. I used the foam craft butterflies I had leftover from our preschool butterfly busy bag. They were purchased from Dollar Tree. For embellishments, I added buttons, sequins, pom poms, jewel gems, googly eyes, glitter glue pens, and an Elmer’s glue pen.
It only takes minutes to put together and provides lots of crafty fun. There are many different shapes of the foam cutouts so you could use a different theme instead of butterflies.
What’s your favorite activity for kids to do on the go?

I adore these especially the monster one. I brought my little girl a monster making kit last month as a special treat but knew I could make my own so much cheaper just needed a bit of inspiration. Thank you.
Thanks Clare! I bet the monster kit you bought was cute!
